Banger Films Filming Rush in Cleveland
by Admin on Apr.16, 2011, under Banger Films
The show is underway in Cleveland Ohio and the crew has spent all day setting up multiple cameras to capture this historic concert on Rush’s 2011 Time Machine tour.
In 1974 Donna Halper, at that time the Music Director at WMMS Cleveland spun Rush to American listeners for the first time… The rest is history and so Rush and Banger Films team up again to show their appreciation for this town by filming the show for a full length concert DVD to be released at a later date.
Sam took a second out of his busy setup schedule to shoot us a pic from the Venue. Enjoy and please feel free to stop by and share your thoughts of the show or anything that crops up.
Banger Films Crew Shooting Iron Maiden in Argentina and Chile
by Admin on Apr.07, 2011, under Headbanger's Journey DVD Tour
A healthy crew of Bangers are setting up to film Iron Maiden in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile.
There has been a little bit of chatter around the net but we can confirm that we will be shooting the band for a live concert dvd to be compiled using footage from both shows.
We know that the fans in South America are passionate and this compilation is sure to capture their fervor and delight in front of Maiden’s Final Frontier Tour. Recalling some of the footage from the Flight 666 film, there was definite interest in returning for something a little more in depth.
Check out some words stolen from a recent BlabberMouth blog post oh and MetalHammer ran something too …
In a recent interview with Chile’s Futuro 88.9 FM, IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris stated about the DVD upcoming shoot, “We will record two shows. We will use footage from both concerts for the DVD.
“We have amazing supporters in Chile and Argentina and we want to show more of the audiences from those parts of the world. We already filmed some footage there for the ‘Flight 666′ movie, but only one song per country was used. We will now have a chance to show much more of the crowds in Chile and Argentina.
“Wherever we go, we are always asked what the best audiences in the world are, and we always say that it is South America — Chile, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Now we can show it.”
When asked if the setlist for the Buenos Aires and Santiago concerts will be the same as the one the band has been playing on the current “Final Frontier World Tour”, Harris said, “The setlist that we are playing is basically the same we have been playing on this tour, what you have been able to see on Internet. The sets that we will do in Chile and Argentina will be the same, but for these two special shows that will be recorded, we have prepared more songs and a bigger production. So what you will see in Chile will be a long and big show.”
Regarding how many cameras will be used to capture the performances, Harris said, “I think it will be about 10 or 12. I had always been involved in the production and direction of the concert DVDs in the past, but we are now working with a very good company, the guys who made the documentary ‘Flight 666′. They are the ones who are responsible for recording these shows, so for me at least it is a great relief.”
Rush Around the Net and Amazing Kids Singing Iron Maiden
by Admin on Mar.19, 2011, under Banger Films
I watch over a lot of the online chatter that filters around the net and while most of it is just a rehash of the film synopsis filled with Amazon links, there are also many insightful and intelligent discussions on the Band and the film. Every now and then I like to list off a few of my favorites to share around and hopefully bring more like minded individuals to our blog. I know it’s been a while since our last story, however with the Juno Awards, filming Iron Maiden in Argentina and Rush in Cleveland, there is surely to be a consistent barrage of stories in the near future.
Here are a few sites that I enjoyed reading over the last few weeks. Remember to add your comments, Tweet and Share if you enjoy any of these links yourself.
- This is a very bright discussion over at DrummerWorld regarding a few questions that came up after watching the film. Some insightful band dynamic stuff here: http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73612
- This is sort of a funny piece about someone who picked out the bottle of wine that Geddy mentioned during the hilarious final sequence. This created a mini ‘rush’ on this vintage of wine: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/food-and-wine/wine/beppi-crosariol/rush-out-to-buy-these-rare-california-reds/article1944644/
- And who can forget this ditty that flew around the new a few weeks back. Work another look. Any Canadian band that can feature prominently in the Brutal Legend soundtrack get’s a Heavy Metal gold star
. http://www.rockstarweekly.com/3-inches-of-blood-recording-heavier-material-for-next-album.html - This blew my mind. Be sure to watch for the little girl rockin out with some ‘heli-copters’ on the right during the solo section. Absolutely love this!

As I’m sure we all know by now, Rush did not win the Grammy and lost (perhaps in a close race) to an amazing piece on the Doors and primarily Jim Morrison. You should all check it out.

Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage,
Kicks off a Stellar Year for Banger Film Directors
Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn
Toronto. February 3, 2011. Banger Films is proud to announce that Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn’s most recent documentary, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, has received a 2011 Juno nomination – Canada’s top music honour – in the category of Best Music DVD of the Year. This follows on the heels of their doc’s Grammy nomination for Best Long Form Music Video and the Audience Award at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.
This is McFadyen and Dunn’s second Juno nomination. They won a 2010 Best Music DVD Juno for Iron Maiden: Flight 666.
“I think if you had told us six years ago that our company would be this successful we would have a hard time believing you! I can’t think of a better way to make a living than creating docs about music and subjects that you love. The problem we have now is finding enough time to work on all the projects we have on our plate!” says Scot McFadyen.
Once back from Los Angeles after the February 13th Grammy ceremonies, McFadyen & Dunn return to production on their next project – the innovative Metal Evolution: The Series. This 11-part one-hour series format, based on the much-debated Metal History “family tree” originally shown in Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, will be an all-time first for the directors. While Headbanger’s Journey served as a 96-minute introduction to this controversial and misunderstood musical form, a kind of Metal 101, Metal Evolution: The Series is the 11-hour Masters program, uncovering the history, myths and intricacies of Metal. This is the most exhaustive look at the hard rock/metal genre ever undertaken and, when complete, will feature interviews with over 200 artists.
And after that, McFadyen and Dunn start production on their new feature length documentary, SATAN, an exploration of the history and influence of the ultimate agent provocateur, the Devil. Alliance Films has theatrical and DVD distribution for Canada with broadcast partners being The Movie Network and Movie Central. Tricon Films will handle international TV sales.
Grammy nominee Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage explores the forty-year career and phenomenon behind what could be the world’s biggest cult band. Rush (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart) ranks third for most consecutive gold and platinum albums behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and has engaged legions of devoted fans over the decades and is revered by generations of musicians. The documentary features never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with rock artists such as Billy Corgan, Taylor Hawkins, Trent Reznor, Sebastian Bach, Kirk Hammett, Jack Black and Gene Simmons.
